A small watercolour I started at the beginning of the year then reworked over in pencil. Inspired by some photographs of New Zealand mountain pastures. Possums don't belong in NZ so imagine this is somewhere else.

Convoluted Theosit by Melanippos

My convoluted theosit - a project from last semester. A combination of Lewins Rail (Lewinia pectoralis), a sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps), a beetle (coleoptera) and a imaginary fish species. They live in brackish and fresh waterways and primarily eat invertebrates, amphibians and small fish. The latin name may be replaced if I think of a better one - suggestions welcome.

96. After the storm >> For the 100 themes challenge I love rain. And we've had a lot recently too - enough to make the river flow over the causeway. This is one of the best rainy weather activities of childhood.

Mezig the Dachsin puffhund by Melanippos

scampers for the door to Awk at the postman, as he does everyday at 10.43. Mezig is a scottish/german gryphon that, for some reason unknown to me, lives in a british style flat in Italy, probably Venice, with my older, white haired spinster self. I get a feeling I'll be drawing him again. Probably out strolling or boating in the canals - perhaps even depicting the older me with my white hair and straw hat. Partially inspired by Swandog. She is a combination of the most graceful creatures - a swan and a saluki. I went for the inverse - two of the most rollypolly inelegant beings - though he ended up with a short legged grace all of his own. Mezig is (c) to me, my brainchild. You're welcome to create your own Puffhund but please don't try to nick mine. He bites. And I'd love a link back if you do.

She who dances continues the tradition forward into her SEVENTH year! This years Araikao prophecy dance seems to project confidence and certainty - she know where she's going, knows the steps to take and is well in control of her pace.She is moving forward in a sprightly stride, green for growth, vibrant with intent, and she's wearing diamonds on the soles of her shoes. Shes fit, she's muscular, she's happy. Looks like its going to be a good year. Of course I won't be certain until the end of the year and I can look back with the 2008 Araikao dancing on the threshold yet again. The improvement in anatomy is splendid. This is the first time I have worked her soley in colour pencil and it has certainly paid off! To see the previous six Araikao pictures Click here

For Moonfeather's competition on Deviantart Probably the most complete background I have ever done. Though I still need a lot of work on depth. And my first go on illustration board! Moth is a pyro-autistic blacksmith - embers are his hearts delight and if he gets entranced on a piece he is working on he might not rember to eat for days.

Xing is a blind Boobook owl that my neighbors look after. She's also the backup vocalist for a song one of my childhood friends recently won an award for. She's launching her first CD tomorrow (the friend, not the owl) and I'm putting art up at the gig - I whipped this out last night for it.

Inspired by japanese woodblock paintings. I may well have to do another set or two in the same theme. The background tinting was done using tea of all mediums 6"x10" watercolour on Bushells Tea tinted background
